RilEy KastEnhubEr, Professional Counselor Associate

Hi, I am so glad you found my page! I know that finding a therapist can sometimes be a daunting and overwhelming process; because you are not just looking for a therapist, but for someone who you can build trust with, connect with, and feel supported by. I believe strongly that the relational fit between client and therapist is one of the most important parts of the therapeutic work.

My approach is heavily informed by the psychodynamic school of thought, which imparts the perspective that we are deeply impacted by our early environments and the major relationships present during our formative years. By looking at our past, we often gain a deeper understanding of our present emotions, thoughts, and behaviors; and through this understanding, there are opportunities to transform and further develop our relationships with self and others in beautiful, expansive, and connective ways.

“Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they’re never weakness.”

–  Brené Brown

My work is also centered around a set of values I have adopted from Feminist Therapy. These tenets are foundational to how I navigate my work, and include values such as transparency, collaboration, and client autonomy. In the context of our work, this means I will strive to be honest and demystify the counseling relationship. I strive to elevate my client’s personal power by supporting them in taking an active role in their treatment, helping them connect with their knowledge of self, and supporting their decisions surrounding their mental health. Much of my experience is from working with adults who hold a wide array of different backgrounds and identities. However, I am especially passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent populations and enjoy helping people navigate transitions and explore identity.

I received a BA in Psychology at the University of Maryland where I also received a Certificate in LGBT Studies before I went on to complete my master’s in Professional Mental Health Counseling at the Lewis and Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling.
